mad men….Banana Repubblic

Since the TV series MED MAN bursts on the small screen, we all took a trip “nostalgic” in the ’60s. “
Who would not want to live in that time where a “sparkling” and stylish New York was ushering into the future, at a time when men wore hats in the street and go to work, and women hovered on the red carpet new boutique hotel adjacent to the “Fifth” with full skirts, and white gloves, and errand hotels hinting at them across the bow??

The excellent work done by the creators of the TV series, we did have a taste of that magic and catapulted into the historical period in New York through the intertwining lives of the characters in a famous advertising agency, the
Sterling Cooper.

The series that has made a fool of the States and even Europe, has also been credited with reviving local historians have fallen into disuse before the airing of the series.
As had happened for “Sex and the City”

I am very passionate about the series, during my last trip to New York, I was able to relive the pleasant emotions visiting the places where they were shooting and shot many of the episodes of Med Men comfortably sunk into the famous seats of Crosby Street Hotel to read the New York Post (at 79 Crosby Street) in the very successful 60’s style, that style Mad Men,
Or sipping, like Don Draper, the.
most beautiful sunset in Manhattan at Boom Boom Room on the 18 th floor of the Standard Hotel.
holding a glass of champagne the old fashioned way, orchestra and jazz singer chills.

I could also delight in visiting the ‘Brandy Library’ to Tribeca famous “Power Drink” among businessmen, and have a “SIDECAR”: think cocktails in this bar you can toggling 150 different cocktails that the more classic, beloved by the protagonists ofseries, the “Tom Collins” or the Old Fashioned, so dear also to the “Carrie” to “Sex and the City” 35 years later.
Alas, in Manhattan you can not smoke anymore and maybe today, many protagonists of the series, avid cigar lovers, it would be nervous, not being able to do more in these places, thanks to the television series have again become very famous.
However, lovers of “cocktails & cigars” you can go to “The Carnegie Club”, a local recententemente provided only for lovers, cigar.

For fans of “jazzstyle” typical of the time I recommend a detour: the Zigfield Theatre (at 141 W 54th Street). One of the theaters and cinemas more ‘chic of the Big Apple, often mentioned in the series, or breathe the same atmosphere in another sanctuary of music: “The Bitter End” (147 Bleecker St between La Guardia Pl and Thompson Street

I could not close this semi-guide to the discovery of the New York Med Men do not like pointing out this television series has had the merit to revive the “vintage” as a way of shopping.

, Order for us to fall in the clothes of Don and our clothing theme without spending too much money: we can choose Banana Republic, which since last year launched its new “Mad Men inspired”, Vintage and New York (at 117 West 25th Street) super boutique chic vintage clothing and accessories and very cool, or opt for Broock Brother, Ferragamo, Bottega Veneta, or offering an a ‘wink and a glorification of Italian couture mood inspired the series, but watch your wallet.
The style of Don Draper takes advantage of beautiful waistcoat of buttonDown shirts and cufflinks, personalized wrists from French models, (ie rounded corners) matched with trousers with two pleats in Tasmania and leather shoes, then glazed to perfection by the shoeshine, which still magically rediscover some old and historical underground station.

The meticulous historical research of 60 years seems to have greatly inspired the designers. Dall’haute couture to street wear, it’s all a tribute to the sixties. The etiquette of dress Peggy Olson with the skirt and bodice squeezed, was revisited by Prada’s reformulation of the press “tie”

The classic black coat that makes men sexy even the most cynical of advertising is chosen by Vuitton, men’s collection.

The famous and beloved Twin sets, chemises with cinturina, the pants “Capri”, skirts below the knee, is a general return to the style chic bon-ton must have found that almost all the catwalks for women, who remember very much era icons like Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn Jackline Kennedy, Cary Grant and Errol Flinn many more ……
If you do not have time for the real Mad Men-New York, then I suggest the vision of this wonderful television series, for a trip, even imaginary, in this city of skyscrapers, still in the seed, was about to blossom and turn into Apple. in ‘energetic BIG APPLE.
